We’re less than two weeks away from finally returning for its seventh season, but before we jump back into Westeros, Cersei Lannister herself is giving us an update on what we can expect this season. And unfortunately, it sounds like more bad news for Cersei.
Fans of the show will recall last season ended with Cersei sitting on the Iron Throne after sending all of her political rivals in King’s Landing up in flames in a massive explosion. But as Arya, Daenerys, Jon Snow, and all the other major characters are finally making their way to the throne as well, she might not be in power for too much longer.
Lena Headey was understandably tight-lipped on the specifics of what will happen to Cersei in the upcoming Season 7 of in her New York Times profile, but she did reveal on major detail:Cersei is not going to be staying on the throne.
Um, she’s not having a good time there you go. Apparently winter is really coming, finally.
For nearly the entirety of run to this point, a Lannister has sat on the Iron Throne. The only brief exception was Robert Baratheon’s reign at the beginning of Season 1, which the Lannisters quickly put an end to.
But now, it sounds like the reign is finally going to change families. When asked who she thinks will be sitting on the Iron Throne at the end of it all, she sounded pretty sure that it wouldn’t be Cersei.
It can’t be me because I’m already there. So I’m [expletive].
Fans have already been piecing together clues from the teasers HBO has released for the new season that seem to suggest the end for Cersei. Other teasers have hinted at Daenerys and Jon Snow’s challenge for the throne is finally coming this season.
But in the meantime, Cersei Lannister is still the queenof Westeros for the time being. Season 7 of will premiere on July 16.
