Abby Lee Miller On Her Prison Sentence: I Wasnt Ever Trying To Hurt Anyone

On Tuesday, May 9, Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller was sentenced to one year and one day in prison for bankruptcy fraud.

The 50-year-old reality star from Pittsburgh, PA was indicted in 2015 for allegedlyhiding $755,000 in earnings from the government, a charge she plead guilty to last year.

Miller sat down with ABC for an exclusive interview that aired on Good Morning America on Wednesdaymorning to talk about yesterdays sentencing, her true intentions and what she has planned for her time behind bars.

When asked if she thought the sentencing was harsh, Miller replied,

A year and a day. It sounds like a movie title.

While she said shes looking to be a smarter businesswoman and also to worry about [herself] in this next chapter of her life, she maintained she never intentionally tried to hide the money.

I wasnt ever trying to hurt anyone, she said.

Choking back tears, Miller, who starredin the Lifetime reality show for seven seasons beginning in 2011, said,

I have spent so much time and so muchenergy making other peoples children stars. I didnt have any children of my own. These were my kids, and I raised them like they were my kids.

The US Attorneys Office issued a statement to ABC after its interview with Miller, saying what she did undermines our justice system. The statement read,

This defendant secreted and structured profits that she derived outside the United States from performances by children.

As for how Miller sees her time in federal prison, she told ABC,

Im just going to pretend Im shooting a movie and were on set and Im there for 10 months and thats the way its going to be.

Other than pretending shes on a movie set, the woman who rose to fame by screaming at young dancers on screen said she plans to spend her days reading, learning Spanish and working on a new book shes already started.

When asked what she would go back and change, Miller said,

I would never have filed for bankruptcy. Ever. I do not recommend it.

Miller will most likely be in jail for 10 monthsin either California or West Virginia, but dont expect her to return quietly. Shes alreadygot plans for a new TV show.
